About this data set
As an independent monitoring tool for analyzing the climate performance of countries, the CCPI plays a pivotal role in assessing the implementation of the Paris Agreement. Since its inception in 2005, the CCPI has offered detailed analysis of countries climate mitigation efforts, facilitating comparisons and tracking progress. The current version of the CCPI covers 63 countries (plus the EU), collectively responsible for over 90% of global greenhouse gas emissions. The CCPI methodology evaluates a country’s performance based on four categories: Greenhouse Gas Emissions (40% of the overall score), Renewable Energy (20%), Energy Use (20%), and Climate Policy (20%). These categories are derived from the results of 14 indicators.
The CCPI provides a standardized framework that fosters credibility, comparability, and international acceptance while promoting transparency in climate action. It serves as a valuable tool for climate change research, policy analysis, informing investment decisions, and engagement. With its comprehensive scope, the CCPI offers numerous opportunities for companies and institutions to align with net-zero goals, from reporting requirements to portfolio management and sustainable product development. Its nearly 20 years of existence allow users to track countries' progress or regression in climate performance over time, offering valuable insights into long-term trends and momentum.

The CCPI’s climate policy section is unique in the ESG data space. It is based on a thorough evaluation of the rigor and implementation of national climate policies, conducted by over 450 independent, domestic climate and policy experts. This provides insider insights into the actual implementation of climate policies. Additionally, since 2018, the CCPI has expanded its evaluation scope to include an assessment of the Paris Agreement compatibility of individual countries.
